I do added 'd3dx9.lib' to project's propertise > configuration propertise > Linker >Input. And to use the code properly I can not ignore this library. So does IVF 9.1 somehow remember it was installed with. The d3dx9 and d3d9 libraries are in the same folder. MT alone was not enough - I had to have both extra options in order to make it work.
